Controller Tests

Controller Tests on DeviceHub cover the full browser Gamepad suite: button presence, analog stick travel, LT/RT trigger ranges, dual-rumble vibration when the API allows, Standard versus raw mapping inspection, best-effort reaction timing, and rest/extreme axis captures. Everything runs locally from the Gamepad API, no installs and no permission prompts.

Start with Gamepad Test or Joystick Test for everyday smoke checks, then use Trigger, Vibration, Mapping, Gamepad Reaction Time, and Calibration tools when a specific symptom needs a sharper lens. Results stay honest about browser limits so you triage hardware before blaming a single game or remapper.

FAQ

Controller Tests FAQ

Common questions about this category of diagnostics.

Why does my controller not appear until I press a button?
Most browsers only expose Gamepad objects after a user gesture on the pad. Connect it, press any button, then run the test.
Do these tools work in Safari or on mobile?
Support is limited. Desktop Chrome, Edge, and Firefox are the most reliable. Safari and many mobile browsers offer incomplete Gamepad or rumble APIs.
Why is vibration unsupported on my pad?
Browser rumble needs vibrationActuator / dual-rumble. Many controllers and browsers lack it even when native games still shake.
Is my controller input uploaded?
No. Button, axis, and haptic checks stay in your browser session. Controller tools do not request microphone or camera permission.
