About RAM Information

Introduction

This page shows a coarse “device memory” hint when the browser provides one. Values are rounded buckets (for example 4 or 8), not your exact installed RAM. Safari and Firefox often omit the API entirely.

What this tool does

When supported, it displays an approximate memory figure the browser chooses to share. When missing, it reports unsupported.

When to use it

Use it for a quick Chromium-oriented hint. Trust your OS About/System panel for exact RAM.

How it works

Supported: many Chromium browsers. Unsupported: Safari and Firefox in most cases. Why: exact RAM can fingerprint users, so engines limit or omit it. Permissions: none. Hardware: any device; the number is still a bucket. Expected: a round GiB hint or unsupported — never a precise module inventory.

  3. If unsupported, check installed memory in your operating system.

Common problems

Seeing 8 when you installed 16 can be normal bucketing. Unsupported on Safari is common.

Memory field is unavailable
navigator.deviceMemory is often Chromium-only and may be omitted for privacy. Try Chrome or Edge; Safari and Firefox commonly show unsupported, that is expected.
Value does not match Task Manager
deviceMemory returns approximate GiB buckets, not exact installed RAM. An 8 bucket can represent a range, do not RMA sticks based on this API alone.
Value seems too low
Buckets are coarse and may under-report. Cross-check RAM Information and OS reporting; treat browser values as adaptive-loading hints only.
