Introduction

This page checks whether Web NFC exists in your browser. Support is mainly Chrome on Android over HTTPS. iPhone and desktop browsers usually do not offer it. This is a support checker, not a full NFC utilities suite.

What this tool does

It detects the Web NFC reader API and can attempt a scan call to surface permission or hardware messages. It is not a complete tag read/write workshop.

When to use it

Use it to see if this browser can use Web NFC before building or testing an NFC web feature.

How it works

Supported: Chrome on many Android phones (HTTPS, NFC hardware on). Unsupported: iOS Safari, desktop browsers, and many other mobile browsers. Why: NFC web access is narrowly implemented. Permissions: NFC/scan permission when you try a scan. Hardware: an NFC-capable Android phone. Expected: available/unsupported, and optional permission errors without needing a successful tag read.

Expected. Web NFC is primarily Chromium on Android, not iOS Safari. Use Android Chrome/Edge for support checks.
API missing on desktop Chrome
Desktop often lacks Web NFC. Retest on a compatible Android device over HTTPS; unsupported is valid.
NDEFReader exists but scan fails
OS NFC may be off, hardware missing, or permission/user-activation required for scan operations. Toggle NFC in Android settings and retry with a user gesture.
