Description
About Mouse Visual Delay Check
Introduction
Mouse Visual Delay Check is a best-effort visual compare of pointer motion versus on-screen feedback in the browser. It is not laboratory end-to-end input lag. Use relative A/B checks under matched load and refresh rate.
What this tool does
The interface presents a motion task, samples pointer positions against rendered feedback, and summarizes an estimated delay with variability. Multiple short trials matter. Display refresh and compositor queues cap what you can observe.
When to use it
Run it when the cursor feels soft after docking, when Bluetooth feels spongier than wired, or when browser apps feel laggier than the desktop. Prefer Mouse Pointer Event Rate for event density, Double Click Test for bounce.
How it works
Methods typically correlate input timestamps with animation-frame presentation or pursuit error. Exclusive full-screen games use different paths than DOM compositing. No permissions are required. Estimates stay local.
Step-by-step instructions
- Open Mouse Visual Delay Check on the display you actually use.
- Complete several measured trials without changing mice mid-way.
- Record a range, then retest after closing heavy tabs or switching wired/wireless.
- Compare a second mouse only under the same browser, refresh rate, and load.
Common problems
Single trials are noisy. Remote desktop dwarfs mouse hardware differences. Mixed refresh monitors and capture overlays can inflate visual delay. Average several passes before deciding.
Privacy explanation
Trial timings stay in your browser session. DeviceHub does not upload latency profiles or aim trajectories. No permissions are requested.
